Over 60 years ago, the son of a dairy farmer set off to college to study veterinary medicine. But after a year of study, Cornell University asked him to come and perform graduate research in “animal nutrition”. His goal was to find better ways to make cows and sheep grow faster to provide the animal protein that was known as being “good nutrition”.
In short order, this dairy farmer’s son, T. Colin Campbell became regarded in the academic community as an expert of high-quality animal protein With this expertise, was asked to coordinate technical assistance for a project in the Philippines working with malnourished children. It was this project that led him down the road to a science that he did not want to accept, that he didn’t want to believe and that he didn’t want to champion.
“This information countered everything I had been taught. It was heretical to say that protein wasn’t healthy, let alone say it promoted cancer. It was a defining moment in my career. Investigating such a provocative question so early in my career was not a very wise choice. Questioning protein and animal-based foods in general ran the risk of my being labeled a heretic, even if it passed the test of “good science”.
What happened next was the stuff of spy novels and political intrigue. Staffs from Big Agriculture, Big Pharma and other concerns working with political cronies to remove grant funding, ghost write character assassination articles and attempt to discredit the man behind the research.
“Because I have been behind the scenes generating health information for so long, I have seen what really goes on – and I’m ready to tell the world what is wrong with the system. The distinctions between government, industry, science, and medicine have become blurred. The distinctions between making a profit and promoting health have become blurred. The problems with our system do not come in the form of Hollywood-style corruption. The problems are much more subtle, and yet much more dangerous.
After 6 decades of research, study, publishing, teaching, and learning, Dr. T. Colin Campbell has earned the title of “Father of Nutrition”. His fearless presentation of scientifically validated research presented in an entertaining format with a “no-holds-barred” attitude has brought him world-wide attention and respect.
