Are you passionate about music, or better yet, finding community to thrive within a music scene? If so, you know when it comes to watching your favorite artist live, it’s going to include travel time. Whether it’s Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh (or if you’re lucky, Erie), it’s certainly not easily accessible. I have personally been to over 40 concerts and traveled near and far. Seriously, I planned an entire trip around a concert in Denver, Colorado. I couldn’t be more excited and passionate to be part of creating the Roots Rising Concert Series and serving on its committee.
Our mission statement reads “Roots Rising is a new Struthers Library Theatre concert series focusing on original American roots music. The series aims to build community and inspire creativity by presenting nationally recognized blues, country, folk, bluegrass, and Americana artists. Join us in our mission to connect friends, families, and neighbors with affordable, high-quality entertainment.” If you would have told me two years ago, that my future would include, not only working at a theatre as it's marketer, but kickstarting a project such as Roots Rising, I would not have believed you. Music has always been one of the most important things in my life. Days rarely pass without me discovering new music, or at least, new to me. To spend time at my job searching for new acts to engage with, makes grateful sound like an understatement. Our goal is to create a community within this series, we hope people look forward to coming back for as many shows as they can. Whether they know the artist already or are open to discovering something new and exciting, all are welcome. Not only is it high-quality entertainment, but they are affordable shows, with some smaller-scale events being free to the public.
